How To Maintain Your Washer and Dryer
Washing is an essential task in all our homes, we all do laundry. The existence of washer and dryer has taken off the load of laundry from our shoulders. These are extremely affordable appliances, taking up very little place and seamlessly executing their task. Since we are so dependant upon these, it is necessary on our part to take proper care of it, to ensure it’s longevity.
5 Tips to Care for Your Washer
1.Empty
the washer
Empty the washer of wet clothes as soon as the washing gets done. Keeping wet clothes in it for a prolonged period will lead to generation of unpleasant odour among the clothes along with germination of mold and mildew inside the appliance
2.Do
the Door
Always
take a look at the door. Keep the door open for a bit after clearing the
clothes from it so that air can circulate inside and dry the inside. Always
wipe the gaskets dry to relive it of any moisture. The presence of moisture
will lead to mold and would result in the door not closing properly.
3.Balance
Do
not overload the washer as it would result in a poor wash and damage the
clothes. Maintaining the machine level ensures a balanced spin of the drum.
Overloading would lead to an uneven spin and put pressure on it leading to much
damage.
Once
in while carry out a periodic maintenance wash. For this run the washer without
any clothes in the drum in the hottest cycle with the usual amount of
detergent. This helps to thoroughly clean the interior of the machine and the
drain pipes, not allowing for any diet and hard water salt build up.
5.The
Hoses
It’s important to inspect the hoses from time to time as, an unattended hose may result in a rupture and lead to the spilling of a gallon of water. Always clean your hoses, use a brittle brush to clear any debris from the filters. Try to replace your hoses every five years for a smooth use.
1.No
Soiled Items
For
efficient performance from your dryer, make a note to not pit any soiled or wet
clothes into the dryer. Even if they are unused clothes that got wet, run them
first in the washer then transfer it into the dryer.
2.No
Overload
Don’t
try to save your time and effort by stuffing too much into your dryer. Clothes
need proper circulation to dry up completely. Overstuffing will lead to cram
taking up more time to get done and will damage the machine.
3.Clear
the Lint
Lint
build up is destructive to the machine as it could lead to the dryer flaming
up. Always clean the lint screen after every load and use a long brush to get
rid of any lint accumulated at the bottom of the lint trap.
4.Clean
the Venting Duct
Clean
the entire venting system of the dryer once in year. Take some effort to replace
the duct with smooth metal if it is made up of plastic and relieve the outer
event of any obstructions.
5.Use
a Liquid Softener
Instead
of the cheaper dryer sheets which tend to leave residue and clog up the vents, use
a liquid softener. If you want to go all eco friendly you could replace it with
a dryer ball which would also save up the drying time.
So put all these tips into effect and have a happy and sustainable laundry.
